ABOUT

WHO WE ARE

The Crackpot Seafood Restaurant opened in 1972. Our seafood restaurant in Towson offers a casual and comfortable nautical setting. Crab traps hang from oars that extend over some of the tables. The walls are adorned with many varieties of fish including a seven foot sailfish and swordfish. Portholes and ship lanterns add to the ambiance. 3 large flat screen TV’s in the restaurant & 9 large flat screens at the bar are great for sporting events.

A decade ago Chef Tom Lyons and owner Neil Smith decided to experiment with their crab cakes. This led to the introduction of the largest crab cake in the world – the 22 oz. “Pounder Plus”. Chef Lyons and Neil also invented five crab cake variations – the Smokehouse crab cake, the Blackened crab cake, the Mexican crab cake, the Cruise Missile crab cake, & the Caribbean jerk crab cake.

PRESS

Armed with their specialty crab cakes – Tom and Neil began a year-long tour of radio and TV stations. The on-air celebrities would sample the crab cakes live and share them with other members of their broadcast team. The crab cakes became so famous that the only daily Baltimore newspaper – “The Baltimore Sun” – did a two page article on The Crackpot and its crab cakes that featured Neil on the front page of the “Today” section holding the Pounder Plus.

The film director of the “Best in Chow” and members of his film crew spent two days filming an episode called Crab Cake Wars at the Crackpot. The POUNDER PLUS CRAB CAKE was featured on the TV show – the first of which aired in October 2017. The Crackpot is also famous for having the longest bar in Baltimore. The bar has been featured in several film productions.

We began serving these one of a kind specialty GLUTEN FREE crab cakes to our customers in the fall of 2013. People who are allergic to gluten can now enjoy a delicious Maryland style crab cake.
